About Course

Year 11 Mathematics consolidates all prior learning and focuses on fluency, reasoning, and problem solving. Students refine core mathematical skills, tackle multi-step problems, and develop exam strategies needed to succeed in GCSE Mathematics (Foundation or Higher tiers).
Course Objectives
By the end of Year 11, students will be able to:
Apply mathematical methods accurately and efficiently
Solve unfamiliar problems using logical reasoning
Interpret and use mathematical information in context
Communicate mathematical thinking clearly
Perform confidently under exam conditions

Course Content

AUTUMN TERM
Focus: Introduces students to the key set texts for Year 11 GCSE, including poetry anthologies, prose novels, and Shakespeare plays

  • Week 1 – Introduction & Diagnostic Assessment
  • Week 2 – Poetry: Introduction & Context
  • Week 3 – Poetry: Language and Imagery
  • Week 4 – Poetry: Structure and Form
  • Week 5 – Prose: Context and Overview
  • Week 6 – Prose: Language and Character
  • Week 7 – Prose: Themes and Context
  • Week 8 – Drama: Introduction and Context
  • Week 9 – Drama: Language and Themes
  • Week 10 – Drama: Character and Structure
  • Week 11 – Exam Technique and Essay Writing
  • Week 12 – Review and Consolidation

SPRING TERM
Focus: Knowledge of poetry, prose, and Shakespeare/drama, develop analytical and essay-writing skills, practice timed past-paper responses, and learn to compare texts effectively.

SUMMER TERM
Focus: Exam preparation and consolidation
