About Course
The Mathematics course in Year 2 strengthens pupils’ understanding of number, calculations, shape, and measurement. Building on Year 1 foundations, pupils develop fluency in addition and subtraction, are introduced to multiplication and division, and begin to apply mathematical reasoning to solve everyday problems. The course encourages confidence, accuracy, and logical thinking through hands-on and real-life learning experiences.
Key Focus Areas
Counting, reading, and writing numbers up to 1,000
Understanding place value (hundreds, tens, ones)
Addition and subtraction with and without regrouping
Introduction to multiplication and division
Recognizing fractions (½, ¼, ⅓)
Identifying and describing 2D and 3D shapes
Measuring length, mass, capacity, and time
Reading and interpreting simple data (charts and graphs)
