About Course

The Year 4 Coding course introduces pupils to basic programming concepts using Scratch, a visual, block-based coding platform. Pupils learn to create interactive stories, games, and animations while developing computational thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. The course emphasizes creativity, experimentation, and collaboration.

Course Content

AUTUMN TERM
Focus: Strengthening logical thinking, sequencing, and introducing problem-solving through Scratch

  • 1. Introduction & Revision of Scratch Basics (Weeks 1–2)
  • 2. Sequencing & Events (Weeks 3–4)
  • 3. Movement, Direction & Coordinates (Weeks 5–6)
  • 4. Loops (Repeating Actions) (Weeks 7–8)
  • 5. Debugging & Problem Solving (Weeks 9–10)
  • 6. Mini Project – Interactive Story (Weeks 11–12)

SPRING TERM
Focus: Conditions, variables, logical thinking, and simple game design

SUMMER TERM
Focus: Advanced game mechanics, levels, scoring systems, debugging, and creativity
