About Course

The Phonics course introduces Reception learners to the relationship between sounds and letters. Through songs, stories, games, and hands-on activities, children learn to recognize letter sounds, blend sounds to read simple words, and begin segmenting sounds for spelling. The course builds strong early reading skills while fostering enjoyment and confidence in learning to read.

Course Content

AUTUMN TERM
Phase 1 listening + Phase 2 (sets 1–3). Focus: letter–sound correspondences, oral blending & segmenting, simple CVC reading

  • Week 1: Intro to Phase 1: Listening & Alliteration
  • Week 2: Phase 1: Voice sounds & Rhythm
  • Week 3: Phase 1: Oral blending practice
  • Week 4: Phase 2: Introduce Set 1 (s,a,t,p)
  • Week 5: Phase 2: Set 2 (i,n,m,d)
  • Week 6: Phase 2: Set 3 (g,o,c,k)
  • Week 7: Phonics consolidation & tricky words intro
  • Week 8: Blending & segmenting practice (oral → written)
  • Week 9: Reading short decodable captions
  • Week 10: End-of-term review & fun phonics assessment

SPRING TERM
Finish Phase 2 (sets 4–5) → Phase 3 digraphs/trigraphs. Focus: reading short captions, writing simple CVC/CVCC words.

SUMMER TERM
Consolidate Phase 3, introduce Phase 4 blending CCVC/CVCC words and independent simple sentence reading/writing.
