About Course
The Physical Development course in Reception supports children in developing strength, coordination, balance, and control through active play and movement. Children learn to move confidently in different ways, use tools safely, and develop healthy habits that support their overall wellbeing. The course also strengthens fine motor skills needed for writing, self-care, and classroom activities.
Key Focus Areas
Gross motor skills: running, jumping, climbing, balancing, and coordination
Fine motor skills: hand strength, grip, cutting, drawing, and mark-making
Developing control and awareness of body movements
Using tools and equipment safely (scissors, pencils, paintbrushes)
Developing independence in self-care (dressing, eating, hygiene)
Understanding the importance of physical activity and healthy choices
