About Course

Year 11 Web Development develops students into confident front-end web creators who understand how websites are planned, built, styled, tested, and evaluated. Students create responsive, accessible websites using HTML, CSS, and introductory JavaScript, while applying design principles, ethics, and exam/project documentation skills.
Course Objectives
By the end of Year 11, students will be able to:
Build structured, standards-compliant web pages
Style and layout websites using modern CSS
Add basic interactivity with JavaScript
Apply accessibility, usability, and UX principles
Plan, document, test, and evaluate a web project

Course Content

AUTUMN TERM
Focus: Consolidate Year 10 knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Introduce advanced web development concepts Build responsive, interactive, and accessible websites Focus on exam/project-ready skills

  • Week 2 – Advanced HTML5 Concepts
  • Week 3 – CSS3: Advanced Styling & Layouts
  • Week 4 – CSS3: Animations, Transitions & Effects
  • Week 5 – JavaScript: DOM Manipulation & Events
  • Week 6 – JavaScript: Arrays & Loops
  • Week 7 – JavaScript: Functions & Modular Code
  • Week 8 – Web Design Principles & Accessibility
  • Week 9 – JavaScript: Project Work Integration
  • Week 10 – Timed Past-Paper Simulation 1
  • Week 11 – Timed Past-Paper Simulation 2 & Targeted Revision
  • Week 12 – Term Consolidation & Final Project Preparation

SPRING TERM
Focus: Consolidate HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Timed past-paper projects and exercises Debugging, multi-step problem-solving, and optimization Prepare students for final GCSE Web Development exams/projects Emphasize SPaG clarity and exam documentation

SUMMER TERM
Focus: Final consolidation of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web design principles Full timed past-paper projects and simulations Multi-step debugging and problem-solving SPaG-focused documentation and exam clarity Prepare students for GCSE project and written exam success
